THEMES

Abstract submission deadline: May 29, 2022

The 13th IWA International Conference on Water Reclamation and Reuse will be held from 15th – 19th January 2023. The central theme of the conference is “Water Reuse: Overcoming the Challenges of Growth and Climate Change” and is intended to help progress towards the creation of sustainable water reuse solutions through multidisciplinary cooperation and learning from the extensive experience already gathered in countries around the world. The framework surrounding the central theme of the conference will deal with the full range of topics relating to water reclamation and reuse. There will be a focus on innovations and solutions that address water stress in integrated fashion from the three different angles of water reuse adoptionwater reuse implementation and the removal of water reuse bottlenecks.

Water reuse adoption

  • Water reuse in developing countries
  • Market and social acceptance
  • Public involvement and education
  • Risk management
  • Regulation and governance
  • Economic perspectives
  • The water-energy-food nexus
  • Integration of water reuse into existing systems
  • The role of international collaboration and aid
  • Improved sanitation standards and access to clean drinking water
  • Sustainable water reuse within the context of climate change

Water reuse implementation

  • Industrial reuse
  • Agricultural reuse
  • Urban reuse
  • Non-potable water reuse
  • Potable water reuse (indirect and direct)
  • Desalination
  • Decentralized and small-scale solutions
  • Managing water reuse in fast-growing megacities
  • The financing of water reuse projects
  • Building resilience to water and wastewater reuse

Removal of Water Reuse Bottlenecks

  • Innovative technologies and applications
  • Antimicrobial resistance
  • Concentrate and residual management
  • Zero-liquid discharge
  • Faecal sludge management
  • Smart and digital water reuse
  • Models of adoption of wastewater reuse
