Dear Friends and Colleagues,
The 13th IWA International Conference on Water Reclamation and Reuse (“Chennai 2023”) organized by the IWA Water Reuse Specialist Group (WRSG) in cooperation with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) will be held from January 15 to 19, 2023. “Water Reuse: Overcoming the Challenges of Growth and Climate Change” will be the umbrella topic of “Chennai 2023”.
The conference will take place on the fascinating Indian subcontinent and Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu, is a very water-stressed, highly industrialized conurbation with a population of more than ten million. Owing to its water problems, the subsequent urgent demand for reuse and the resultant experience with advanced reclamation systems, we believe that Chennai (the former Madras) constitutes an excellent venue for our conference and that the Indian and international water reuse communities can learn a lot from each other.
We have received almost 200 abstracts for this significant event, which for the first time is being held in India. The International Scientific & Program Committees have been working hard to put together an exciting program of 100+ top contributions, which will be presented by their authors in three concurrent streams over three days. In addition, five excellent workshops will be organized and we will hold a WRSG General Assembly meeting and announce the 2025 Conference venue. Technical tours will round off the program. I cordially invite you to attend what is the world’s most significant water reuse event! Please see the final program in this brochure.
With kind regards,
Josef Lahnsteiner
Chair IWA Water Reuse Specialist Group

On behalf of the organising committee, it is my great honour to invite you to attend the 13th IWA International Conference on Water Reclamation and Reuse in Chennai, India on 15-19 January 2023. Water being at the core of sustainable development is not only critical for socio-economic development, but also for maintaining a healthy ecosystem and a better quality of life. With increasing water scarcity, water reclamation and reuse hold vast potential for helping the world address the looming water crisis and achieve a sustainable water future. Holding the IWA Water Reuse Specialist Group conference in India will be beneficial for reviewing the recent advances in water management. It will also provide an interactive platform for an exchange of ideas between scientists, engineers, water experts, administrators and regulators, and academia from different countries.
Chennai serves as the gateway to the south of India and has a very distinct and ancient culture. We hope you will enjoy your visit to the city even as you imbibe the richness of the content offered at the conference.
